Finished Leather

What is finished leather?

Finished leather is treated with a top covering. That is, the leather has a defensive layer that counteracts wear and tear, and it influences it to waterproof. Because of this layer of security, finished leather is less demanding to clean and condition contrasted with common or unfinished leather. The additional layer in finished leather likewise secures the leather shading as it doesn’t recolor as effectively and will oppose fluids. The defensive layer likewise furnishes the finished leather with its surface.

The way to making finished leather more often than not includes dunking in aniline color, covering with a pigmented pitch, and afterward applying a clear coat. This procedure leaves the leather shading without much profundity, not at all like the exceptionally rich shade of unfinished leather.

What does fully-finished leather look like?

Basically a full-finished leather can be glossy, matte and naked (natural look like crust leather) with a little bit of a shine to it. There are various types of finishes like polish finish, crazy horse finish, burnish finish, pull-up finish, aniline finish, pigment finish, metal finish, and patent finish. Below are the details of the characteristic of these various leather finishes.

Burnish Finish:

Burnish

The burnished finish is quite similar to the polish finish. The more rubbing or polishing it gets it becomes shiny. The difference between Polish and Burnish finish is the Polish finish has a pre-applied shiny effect on it and the burnish finish does not have a pre-applied shiny effect, when it gets polished it becomes shiny and gives an oily tone. Patent Finish:

The patent finish is a thick chemical layer on the grain part. It is covered with a thick layer of Polyurethane coating that’s is why it has named PU patent finish.

Pros:

Fully-finished leather is excellent for pieces that need to withstand some wear and tear.  That’s why it’s so commonly used in cars.  If you have kids or pets, fully-finished leather is probably the way to go with furniture leather as well.

It is usually less expensive than other types of leather.  Because the layer of dye on top of the leather covers imperfections in the hide, manufacturers can use hides that aren’t naturally as pretty as those they have to use with other finishes.

It is easy to clean up.  After something spills on fully-finished leather, you usually have time to wipe it up with a damp cloth and dry it before it is damaged from the spill.
